The Student Film Awards

In 2022, we’re changing the name of our organization and Festival from the Maine Student Film Festival to the Student Film Awards. Since MSFF started in 2018, we’ve always solicited international submissions to host their virtual Maine premieres with our show. Our commitment to global excellence in film has been evident since the beginning.

As we enter the fifth year of our organization, hosting our Festival in Maine has, unfortunately, become a drain on resources. It is difficult and expensive for student filmmakers from around the world to get to Maine, let alone the general public. As our show entered COVID-19 and made the shift to virtual, we discovered more issues – despite our best efforts, Maine did not have the infrastructure to produce virtual events and live broadcasts.

The Student Film Awards will act as the governing body for a similarly-named Festival, and accompanying awards show. Our first priority continues to be finding the best student filmmakers in the world, and as we sunset MSFF and shift towards the new frontier of our organization, we’ll be able to do so.

More information will be coming in early 2022 about this change. For the time being, our submission period for the Class of 2022 will open under MSFF branding, with the intention to fully change over to SFA before our next Festival.
